This Week's Happenings:
Language Arts: We are currently reading the classic tale "Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp". We are learning our procedures for reading and working on comprehension as we read. We are also reading the classic tale "The Wind in the Willows" and learning about the literary devices of perspective and theme. We will continue reviewing vowel sounds and doing reading assessments to help with our reading instruction moving forward.
Math: We have been learning how to round numbers to the nearest 10 and the nearest 100. We will use this skill as we estimate and add numbers in the hundreds. We will review strategies to help us add large numbers up to 1,000 accurately. We have introduced the 0's and 1's times tables and will move onto the 2's this week.
Spelling: We will not have spelling words until the week of Sept. 9th.
Homework: The first homework packet will come home today. Students will have the entire week to work on this and return next Monday. Please go over the math pages with your students and check it with them. If there is anything they do not understand, make a note and I can review it with them at school. Please sign the front cover for each day for their reading minutes and also to verify you have reviewed the math with them.
