Mrs. Whetman's 3rd Grade Adventurers

We had a great 3rd grade Thrills activity on Friday.  We did the "Thrill of the ride" and worked in teams to create a roller coaster for marbles to travel through.  These roller coasters had loops and hills and were certainly exciting!

This Week's Happenings:

Language Arts:  We will finish our unit on Light and Sound.  We will learn about sound this week in our reading.  We will work with the conjunctions 'and' and 'but' and learn how they connect phrases in a sentence. 

Math:  This week's focus is a continuation of fractions.  We will learn what a denominator  and numerator is in a fraction and we will also place fractions on a number line to determine where they are placed in relation to the whole numbers 0 and 1. 

Spelling: Our spelling words this week have the spelling of long 'a'.  Please look for the words on the homework cover coming home tomorrow. 

SEP Week:  Parent conferences will be held the week of Feb.3 - Feb. 7.  I will be sending home a note with a time for us to meet on Friday. Please look for this note.   I am hoping to schedule all our conferences on Monday and Tuesday of this week.  If you know you cannot meet either of these days, please email me before Thursday, or if you have a preference of a time either of those days, please email me.  This will help in scheduling meeting times.  Thanks!

Program:  Please put the date of Feb. 14 on your calendars for our 3rd grade program.  We will be doing a special President's Day program on Feb. 14 for parents and families at 2:00 pm in the gym.  We hope you can come and join us!

Valentines Day:  Due to the program on Feb. 14, we will be celebrating Valentine's Day in our class on Feb. 13.  I will send home a class list for Valentines in a few weeks.  We will pass out Valentines on Feb. 13 instead of Feb. 14.
