This Week's Happenings:
Language arts: We are starting a new unit in language arts in which we will read about Vikings. We will read some of the Viking age mythology, learn of their culture while working on our reading skills. In our grammar studies we will continue working with conjunctions, specifically because. We will also use the suffixes -ive, and -ly to change the meanings of words.
Math: We have been learning about fractions as we have learned to read fractions and write fractions. We will work with fractions greater than one this week and will also learn how to find a fraction of a group.
Spelling: Our spelling words are words with the sound of /k/ spelled with a 'k', 'cc', 'ck', 'ch' and 'c'. The words are: snowflake, kindness, lookout, soccer, candle, attack, quickly, anchor. The challenge words are: example, mountain.
Parent Teacher Conferences: Parent teacher conference week will be Feb. 3-7. School will be excused each day at 2:30 including Wednesday. I have sent home the slips with your student's scheduled time. If you have not seen this yet, please ask your student for the note, sign it and return it as soon as possible. Thanks!
President's Day Program: Please put the date of Feb. 14 on your calendars for our 3rd grade program. We will be doing a special President's Day program on Feb. 14 for parents and families at 2:00 pm in the gym. We hope you can come and join us!
Valentines Day: Due to the program on Feb. 14, we will be celebrating Valentine's Day in our class on Feb. 13. I will send home a class list for Valentines in a few weeks. We will pass out Valentines on Feb. 13 instead of Feb. 14.
