This Week's Happenings:

Language Arts:   We have started a new unit in our language arts studies.  We will read about animals and how scientists classify animals.  In our language studies we will review nouns, verbs and adjectives.  We have practiced the rule to add the suffixes '-ed', and '-ing' to words with short vowel sounds.  We will also learn about the prefixes 'non-, re-' and study how these prefixes change the meaning of a word.

Math:  We will finish our first unit in math this week by reviewing how to subtract using regrouping.  We will take our unit test at the end of the week.  We are working on passing off our times tables and have passed off our 0's and 1's.  The next set of times tables each student is working on are the 2's.  Practice at home would be very helpful.

Spelling:  This is our first week for spelling.  Please look on the homework cover for the words we will work with this week.  Students will need to spell the root words and then will need to add the suffixes '-ed' and '-ing' to each word.  The root words are:   hop, rub, plan, grab, patch, stretch, discuss, submit, ship, finish.  Our spelling assessment will be on Friday.
