We had such a fun afternoon participating in the 3rd grade thrills activity. We learned the Thriller dance, watched "It's a Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" with popcorn and had a witch tell us a Halloween story. A big thank you to those who came to help make this activity so fun!
This Week's Happenings:
Language Arts: We will continue reading informational text about our bodies. We will read about our eyes and ears and how they function. We will learn about subject/verb agreement along with reviewing some of the skills we have already learned. We will write about the nervous system and then choose from the paragraphs we have written (the skeletal system, the muscular system, the nervous system) to make a final draft.
Math: We will learn about the distributive property of multiplication ( 4x6 = (4 x 5) + (4x1) ) and use this property to help us solve multiplication problems. We will also learn the associative property of multiplication ( 3 x (2x5) = (3x2) x 5 ).
Spelling: Our spelling words are the challenge words from this unit. There will only be 6 words and we will just spell the words without having to add a suffix to the word. The words this week are: exercise, laugh, across, idea, please, before.
Red Ribbon Week: This week is red ribbon week. There are many fun activities planned to help students pledge to not take any substances that would hurt their bodies and minds. Here are the activities we will doing:
Monday: "Band" together against Tobacco and Vaping! Students will be given a bandana to wear through the week and will bring home a pledge to sign and return to school.
Tuesday: Don't Get "Mixed Up" in Drugs! Wear crazy socks and mismatched clothes.
Wednesday: "Team Up" against alcohol! Wear your favorite sports jersey or an SUU shirt.
Thursday: "Scare Away Drugs!" Come to school dressed for Halloween and/or have crazy hair. Join us in the afternoon for our first Halloween Trail. Please no Masks, no Props/Weapons, Must be able to use the restroom easily with costume. Parents can join us at 2:30 in the gym.
Friday: "Wake up", Drugs are bad! Wear your PJ's to school!
It will be a fun week!
Halloween Party: For our Halloween party we will have donuts and small water bottles. We will need the following:
2 volunteers to bring 1 dozen donuts each, 2 volunteers to bring 12 small water bottles each, 1 volunteer to bring napkins. Please email me if you could donate one of these items. Thanks!
Walking Fieldtrip to SUU We will be walking to SUU Randall Jones Theater on Tuesday, Nov. 5 to see the play "Frog and Toad". The cost for the play will be $2.00 for each student. I will send home a permission slip for the play on Monday and would ask that it be returned to school by Wednesday. Please send the $2 back with the permission slip. If you are unable to pay the $2, please let me know.
